Utica Junior College (UJC) was founded in 1903 as Utica Normal and Industrial Institute. It is the oldest of the six campuses of the Hinds Community College District (HCCD). UJC merged with the HCCD in 1982 but retains its Historically Black College & University (HBCU) designation and traditions. As such, it maintains its annual yearbook entitled The Uticanite first published in 1956.
