In 1908, Booker T. Washington traveled by private rail car to sites throughout Mississippi, including a special visit to Utica to see his protégé William H. Holtzclaw's new school, the Utica Normal and Industrial Institute. Holtzclaw is pictured here (red arrow) with Booker T. Washington (black arrow) and his party in front of the newly dedicated Illinois Memorial at the Vicksburg Military Park.
